METEORITE 2017 was born in 2016 from an idea of Giorgio Pozzi. He wanted to transform a researched sculpture in a common object and create a unique table, an expression of Italian design and its craftsmanship.
METEORITE 2017 was created by Officina Della Scala and the collaboration of a very skilled team: Antolini, one of the most famous marble companies in the world, has always supported the development of new technologies to process natural stone.
For every meteorite, the sculptor “Matteo Berra”, a renowned artist for his sculptural approach to shaped steel, begins from zero. He welds every centimetre of the 200 hundred layers of steel by hand employing many hours and this gives form to the sculpture. No dies or patterns are used. This makes the form of every meteorite unique and exclusive. Baldo Altemio & C., historic steel carpentry specialized in iron and steel processing.
METEORITE 2017 is the fusion of the invisible grey marble top with the sculpture, an internal structure and the steel oval base.
METEORITE 2017 represents the research of an emotion, a narration of shapes and materials that combines the complexity of the marble with the strictness of steel. The invisible grey marble appears as a light material, almost without weight suspended over a steel meteor.
This multicolor meteor marble is able to amplify the spaces. Its warm color spread out with fluid lines creating shades and shadows, like on an artist’s palette. The sculptural approach of Matteo Berra seems to be moved towards a paradox, researching the impossible. With its unique technique the artist exhibits the hidden but over- flowing sensuality, with docile shapes that are difficult to extract from the cold steel.
METEORITE 2017 also tells the millenial and precious processes that compose the stone, the marble and the iron with the strength that nature can have and that we can only try to transform in beauty.
